Like so many small businesses, during the pandemic, my focus was to keep the shop open for our community, and to do that, I had to secure funding through several channels. This included significant loans, which will need to be paid back. Closing the shop, selling as much merchandise, shop samples, and fixtures as possible will help enable those debts to be fulfilled. Look for our “Yarn-o-Meter” to see how close we are to reaching our financial goal, while you stock up on all your favorite products before they disappear.

On Friday, July 9, we will begin our Closing Sale, with all merchandise at 20% off. You’ll want to shop early to stock up on your favorites! We will provide a coupon code on the Shop page of our website if you would like to shop online, as well.

Some of our yarn, including Shibui and Woolfolk, will be re-homed to another local yarn shop next week, so shop this Friday or Saturday if you don’t want to miss either of these fabulous yarns while they are still available in our shop.

The sale will continue through July, but don’t wait until the prices drop - your favorite products, especially in sweater- or blanket-quantities, will be gone! This is a perfect time to restock after all your pandemic knitting and crocheting.

Later in July, we will also be selling some of our shop samples, as well as some of our fixtures.

We are open for walk-in shopping on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 12:00-4:00 PM and look forward to seeing you.

Please wear your mask and sanitize as you enter.

If the shop gets too busy for appropriate social distancing, we may ask you to wait outside for a short time.

Appointments are no longer needed or available.

We’ll have a place for you to share your favorite memories with us, and I know your visits and these notes will be a precious part of this “binding off” process. We will be holding a celebration toward the end of July or early August, as the timing becomes more clear.

Each of you has touched our hearts, and we hope we have touched yours as well, as we share our love for yarn, knitting, crochet, and all the joys that accompany this craft. Thank you for all the years we’ve been a part of this amazing community. You have brought us into your lives, through the connection of yarn, and it’s been an honor and a privilege to be your local yarn shop.

And now, it is time for us to take the next road less traveled… We have teamed up with No Panic Knitting (Pamela Minniear, an AYLR alum) to bring you this lovely option. Perfect for quick and cozy holiday gifts!

Knit up in super-bulky weight yarn and large needles, "To Make A Long Story Short" is a cowl with 2 options for length: the short version is 26 inches in circumference; the longer version is 52 inches.

Knit Along (KAL) Participation
To participate in this KAL, please purchase your yarn from A Yarn Less Raveled. We suggest using Amano Yana and Yana Journeys (175 yards per skein), Malabrigo Rasta (90 yards per skein) or Berroco Ultra Wool Chunky (held double, 145 yards per skein).

You can easily knit two short cowls from one skein of Yana for the main color. If you are using Berroco’s Ultra Wool Chunky, you will hold two stands of yarn together both meet the yarn gauge requirement, and to give the cowl that “marled” look as in the photo.

We’ve put together some suggested yarn combinations, using these yarn options. See examples in the photo, or set up a private shopping appointment, and we will help you choose your own combination.

How to Participate
Come join the holiday prep fun! Join us for a Zoom gathering on November 14 at 2pm, where we can share our progress, knit together, and ask questions of the designer.

Please register for this gathering, using this link below.

When: Nov 14, 2020 02:00 PM Pacific Time (US and Canada)

Register in advance for this meeting by clicking this link: Zoom Meeting Advance Registration

After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.

What You'll Need for the KAL

Yarn from A Yarn Less Raveled (see above)
Pattern is available for purchase on Ravelry here: https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/to-make-a-long-story-short

Short Cowl:

90 yards (82 meters) of main color yarn

25 yards (23 meters) of contrasting yarn (for ribbing on edges)

You will also need:

One US size 13 (9.0mm) 24-inch circular needle (for short cowl)

One US size 15 (10mm) 24-in circular needle (for short cowl)

Long Cowl:

180 yards (165 meters) of main color yarn

50 yards (46 meters) of contrasting color (for ribbing on edges)

You will also need:

One US size 13 (9.0mm) 32-inch circular needle (for long cowl)

One US size 15 (10mm) 32-in circular needle (for long cowl)

Please note: Yarn estimates are generous; you will have some yardage left over.
Safety Protocols for Walk-In Shopping http://www.ayarnlessraveled.comhttps://www.ayarnlessraveled.com/modules/news.htm?newsId=9647
Safety Protocols for Walk-In Shopping - What to Expect

Updated 05 November 2020, effective 13 November 2020 -Canceled November 17 due to county requirements.

Beginning Friday, November 13, we are adding safe in-store, walk-in shopping two days a week, on Fridays and Saturdays! Before you visit, please read all the safety protocols below. This method uses top-down knitting that incorporates increases at specific intervals to create truly three-dimensional shaping that doesn’t require seaming when you’re done. The neck, shoulders, and yoke are created together, so the shaping is softly sloped to hug the body in a flattering way.

You’ll have the option of knitting one of three Emma sweater designs; two pullovers, and one cardigan (see images below). For this first foray into learning the Cocoknits method, we are offering two chunky yarn selections for this class. Once you’re comfortable with the method, you can explore many variations!

After you register for the workshop, you’ll receive an email with more details and a form to provide your yarn selection, yardage, and other materials you will need. Another advantage of knitting top-down is the ability to try on your garment as you work, to ensure the fit is right.

In addition to all-new patterns, Julie has dedicated a section of the book to an in-depth guide to choosing the right patterns for your figure type with considerations for colorwork, textured stitches, and hemlines all working in concert to create the right silhouette for you.
Sign Up for an In-Store or Virtual Personal Shopping Appointment! http://www.ayarnlessraveled.comhttps://www.ayarnlessraveled.com/modules/news.htm?newsId=9643 Updated July 5, 2021

Personal Shopping Appointments are no longer needed. The shop is open for walk-in shopping on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays between 12 noon and 4 pm. Please visit us!

We look forward to seeing you!

Gathering Virtually Around Our Antique Table http://www.ayarnlessraveled.comhttps://www.ayarnlessraveled.com/modules/news.htm?newsId=9410
Social Distancing is NOT Social Isolation

What can you do to stay connected while we shelter-at-home? Connect with us virtually! We continue to offer complimentary weekly virtual sessions to "Connect Around Our Antique Table," where you can join us on Zoom to knit and crochet with your fiber friends.

All are welcome, and you can join us for the full scheduled time, or just drop in, stay for a bit, then go back to your other activities. According to Larissa Brown who wrote a book about Knit-alongs, it is “Any organized event where people knit [or crochet] together for a common purpose or goal.” You will have an opportunity to sit and crochet with new and known friends! You will also be able to challenge yourself to learn new skills! We can all do this together at our Crochet-Along and end up completing a fun new project.

In April, A Yarn Less Raveled hosted an amazing trunk show and in-store boutique for DanDoh Yarns and patterns, including many beautiful designs by DanDoh owner Yumiko Alexander. We had a great response to the yarns and patterns, and many bought the Lattice crochet poncho pattern.

This was such a fun, inspiring pattern, we decided to offer a Crochet-Along! This pattern and the CAL gives you a fun opportunity to expand your crochet skills, learning new techniques as you follow the pattern! We will all end up with a beautiful poncho to add to our wardrobe, perfect for our summer weather!

What are we going to make?

Lattice Poncho, by Yumiko Alexander

It is a rectangular-shaped piece with fun pattern variations

What skills are required? You should be comfortable with these stitches:

Chain

Single crochet

Double crochet

NOTE: This CAL is not a replacement for the “Let’s Get Hooked: Learn to Crochet” workshop.
