Breast Cancer Awareness Month: Contribute in Two Ways

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and we are sponsoring a Knitted Knockers Knit/Crochet Along (KCAL) devoted to breast cancer survivors.

Knitted Knockers are special, soft, light-weight breast prosthetics, comfortable for women who have undergone mastectomies, lumpectomies and radiation, and/or are undergoing reconstruction. They can be worn with any regular bra and are machine washable.

Join us each Thursday in October between 4pm and 7pm as we strive to make as many Knockers as we can. The pattern is free and you can choose from a variety of knit and crochet methods. Cindy is your fearless KCAL leader!

  • Are you a newer knitter or crocheter? Cindy is happy to show you the techniques needed so you can contribute.
  • Can't make it to the shop for the KCAL on Thursdays? You can still participate! Purchase your approved yarn at the shop, pick up a pattern, and then drop off your completed Knockers.
  • Patterns, videos, and information about this wonderful cause are available online at

More Details

  • The yarn to be used must be a sport or DK mercerized cotton. Tahki Yarns' Cotton Classic, Cotton Classic Lite, and Rowan Summerlite DK (pending approval) are the yarns we have in the shop for you to choose from, and we have ordered extra quantities in natural colors for this event.
  • You will need US size 4 or 5 needles in either straights, 8” double points or long circulars, or a size G crochet hook, plus a few markers.
  • You should have basic knit and purl skills or basic crochet skills, be comfortable and familiar with your chosen method (DPNs, Magic Loop, crochet, etc.), and know how to increase and decrease.

At the end of October, we will send them, unstuffed, to the Knitted Knockers Support Foundation in Bellingham, Washington, where they will be finished, stuffed, and sent on at no cost to women around the world.

In addition, your contribution for the Knitted Knockers goes further... When you purchase your yarn in the store, we will donate 10% to the Knitted Knockers Organization.

Please join us for this worthy cause and knit or crochet them with a fun group! We are hoping to to help many women as we send a record number of Knitted Knockers off to Washington.
