Come join us for the Blakely Hat Guided Knit Along (GKAL) March 5, 12, and 19!
If you are relatively new to knitting hats, this GKAL will help to solidify your knowledge of hat construction. If you’re an experienced hat knitter, join us to gain tips and tricks and knit with new friends!
We will review how to select a hat size, how to cast on and join for knitting in the round, how to read a pattern, and finally how to use DPNs or the Magic Loop method for closing the top of a hat. Your GKAL registration fee includes the cost of the pattern, which we’ll provide in the first meeting.
Join us on Thursdays, March 5, 12, and 19 from 5:30-6:30 pm. We will meet weekly for three consecutive weeks to complete this hat while working together with current and new knitting friends.
You might ask, how is a Guided Knit Along different from a class? While learning a new technique, we will work to complete a project. There may be less formal instruction but more opportunity for individual guidance while you work to complete your project.
Come on in to the shop to see two examples of the Blakely hat in two different sizes. This GKAL requires registration and payment to participate and to ensure you receive support for this fun project. It also includes the cost of your pattern - we’ll provide this in the first GKAL meeting.
Once you’ve registered, you will need the following materials:
Our GKAL Schedule
Week 1 - March 5 (5:30-6:30 pm): Let’s get started! We will be focused on sizing, casting on, joining in the round and knitting the rib stitch. We will also look through the pattern to answer any questions you might have.
Week 2 - March 12 (5:30-6:30 pm): Ribbing is complete! Now it’s time for the body. We will review changing needle sizes and how to slip stitches. You will have an option to skip the slip stitch if desired.
Week 3 - March 19 (5:30-6:30 pm): Hat is almost done! We will review decreases and demonstrate both DPN and Magic Loop methods for decreasing. Time to choose whether you want a pom pom or not! Celebrate a completed hat project!
