Local Yarn Store Day is a brick-and-mortar yarn shop appreciation day created by TNNA Yarn Group. The inaugural LYS Day will take place on April 21 and is designed to show support for small businesses while bringing together a unique community of knitters, crocheters, weavers and spinners to drive awareness and celebrate the craft.
How are we celebrating the first LYS Day? With all of your favorites: Demonstrations, discounted products, gifts, and a raffle! Tag @ayarnlessraveled #ayarnlessraveled and #lysday to share the fun on Instagram and Facebook.
Add to your knitting and crochet skills by attending mini-classes throughout the day. Our staff has collected some of the most common questions we receive, and we are answering your questions, and demonstrating some of these fun techniques. Sessions are approximately 30 minutes, and will be packed with helpful information!
Each demonstration fee is $5/person, or $4/person if you register for 3 or more Demos. (This small fee helps us cover snacks and cost of materials).
Spaces are limited, so call or come in the shop to register this week (your payment reserves your seat).
If spaces are available, registration will be open for walk-in registrations on Saturday as well.
Demonstration Schedule - Plan Your Day!
Please note: These mini-classes are demonstrations. You do not need to bring any materials, though you may choose to knit or crochet during the session. We hope one or more of these mini-classes piques your interest!
10 AM - Ravelry Pattern Tab (Knitting or Crochet) - Ravelry is a fantastic resource for knitters and crocheters and it’s free to use! You can save all your projects here, store your library, stay in touch with friends and so much more! One of Ravelry’s powerful features though, is the Pattern Tab. Here you can search for patterns a variety of ways and here is also where you can purchase patterns. In this demonstration workshop, you will learn how the Pattern Tab is structured and how to navigate it effectively. Come on down and learn more about Ravelry!
11 AM - Magic Loop Method (Knitting) - In this demonstration, Cindy will de-mystify the technique of knitting in the round using one long circular needle. Add this skill to your knitting toolbox, and you’ll be able to top off hats, knit sleeves and socks smoothly and easily, without those pesky “ladders.”
1 PM - Yarn Substitution (Knitting and Crochet) - Learn the basics for selecting yarns that will work with a pattern you love. Marissa will introduce yarn weights, characteristics, and how to find the original yarn’s information will give you a good start. The A Yarn Less Raveled Staff can help with your final selection.
2 PM - Magic Ring (Crochet) - Learn to start your circular crochet projects with ease, using the Magic Ring technique. Bobbie will show you how.
3 PM - Ravelry Patterns (repeat - see description above)
4 PM - Common Single Increases and Decreases (Knitting) - Pamela will demonstrate some of the most common single increases and decreases, helpful when working on any type of pattern shaping, lace patterns, hats (decreases), shawls (increases and decreases), etc.
