Bead It: Knitting Techniques with Beads

Overview

Learn the basics of knitting with beads in this fun, technique-based class.  You'll learn some basic information about beads and learn how to bring yarn and beads together for your projects.  You'll learn tips on how to get started and you'll practice the beading techniques in class. You'll leave class with a working knowledge of how to add beads to a project, and you'll be hooked.

Objectives

In this class, you will:

• Gain a working knowledge of choosing beads and yarn for your projects.
• Practice the placed bead method and pre-strung method for incorporating beads into your project.
• Practice reading beading instructions.

Materials Needed

• 2 leftover balls of yarn - approximately 20 yards each of fingering weight yarn
• US size 4, 5 or 6 knitting needles (interchangeable needles are helpful but not necessary)
• 5 grams size 8 beads (available for purchase at A Yarn Less Raveled)
• 10 grams size 6 beads (available for purchase at A Yarn Less Raveled)
• Your knitting toolbox
• Steel crochet hook size 8 or 10 (1.0mm-1.15mm)
• Optional:  Beading mat or felt square (If you don't have a mat, you may borrow one during the class time)

Minimum to Run Class:  3 attendees.

Materials Included:	Please use yarn and beads purchased at this shop. You will receive a one-time 10% discount on your class yarn.
Requirements:	You should be able to confidently cast-on, knit, purl, yarnover, k2tog, and ssk without instruction. You should be comfortable knitting with fingering weight yarn and with size US 4, 5 or 6 needles.

Instructor Bio:	Yvonne's mom, grandmother and nanny all had a hand in teaching her to knit, crochet and sew when she was little. This opened the door to her discovering beading, embroidery, cross-stitch and other crafts. She started designing and self-publishing her designs in 2015 as Gamer Babe Knits. Yvonne loves baseball and knits while watching games.
